Ever heard of Cupro? Neither had I until the eco fashion aficionados at Ecouterre featured a
linen-Cupro shritdress by Donna Karan.
What makes this material haute? It’s made from fibers that would otherwise be discarded as waste when processing cotton. And, according to the folks at Ecouterre, the fabric is a
relative of Tencel, cupro is a hypoallergenic, antistatic fabric that is resistant to stretching out of shape at higher temperatures.
And…
Often used as a silk substitute, cupro is noted for its ability to create beautifully draped clothing, except it can be machine-washed and -dried.
My only question is, what happens to the wastewater, which apparently includes a solution of ammonia and copper dioxide? That may be some aspect of the fashion industry that is still a work in progress.
